1st braces anniversary aaaaand I HAVE A DATE!!!!

YES!! I DOOOOO!!!! I'm over the moon!! Yesterday marked my one year anniversary with these horrible things in my mouth and I also had a joint appointment with my surgeon and orthodontist. They said I'm ready and went through a few things together. The plan now is to impact my top jaw 5mm and move it forward 3mm. Lower jaw advancement of about 6mm and genioplanty. I booked my date as soon as I left the office, he asked me to book it in about 3 weeks because I need some blood test and a facebow which I'm trying to get done next week. I can't do it in three weeks because I will be in the Caribbean for work (tough life) until 14th April so I booked it for 20th April. I'm so excited and nervous!! I nearly cried when I left haha silly me...
I can't believe this is happening!!! 36 days!!!! I wish I could say it has gone so quick and blah blah blah but I want to be honest here, I.HATE.MY.BRACES!! Ok they are not as bad as I thought but I still want to pull them off every day! One thing I was very wrong about is guys, I thought 'this is it! No kissing any one for two years!' But as it turns out I fell in love with one of my friends and so did he :) it happened while we were travelling in India, he is a massive support through this tedious process. But every time I kiss him I think 'damn you braces' I just ant wait to be over and done with this!!! Aaaaaargh rant over hahaha

Good luck to everyone going through surgery this coming weeks and well done to all of you on the other side! Any surgery buddies for me?

Mucho love

Harax

  1. Hello Harax! Best of luck to you as you get on with this epic journey! I just had my surgery a week ago (not to different from yours. I also had jaw asymmetry, and underdeveloped lower jaw) and it's definitely rough at first, but just keep in mind that it gets better! Feel free to check out my blog for tips pre and post-op. Congrats, again!

    2. Hi Hara. You look amazing!!! Just seen the after pictures! I have a date - 26th July. I am so beyond nervous. Not of the procedure, or the recover/pain! More of the fact that I will look different and whether or not I will end up liking my new face - since I will not be able to change it! However, seeing how well your surgery has turned out, it has put my mind to rest somewhat! What did they end up doing in the end? Hope your recovery is going well :) Becky x

    1. I was very lucky with food, I wasn't on a liquid diet at all. My surgeon asked me to start chewing on day 2! It took me a while to get back to normal tho... :)

  11. Hi Hara!I'm Jen. I'm having double jaw surgery to correct a similar overbite to yours, except I don't have a crossbite, I have quite a bad open bite instead. We have the same surgeon and he recommended I get in touch with u bcuse our problem is similar! He mentioned he saw you the other day and that I should talk to you about the recovery and how you are doing. I'd seen your blog before so it was funny he mentioned you! How are you doing? I think we also have the same orthodontist. I only got my braces a month ago. They are lingual so you can't see them thankfully, but they have broken three times so far! Hoping for better luck soon. Anyway would love to hear from you and hope your recovery is going well x Jen

    2. Hey Hara!

It was nice to bump into you today! You look fantastic :-) Definitely be great to chat more sometime...I'm not sure how to send a private message on here tho to give you my contact details? Was especially good to see your incisions are invisible! Braces seem to suck either way huh...definitely get Gishy Goo, it's more expensive but way better than wax because it doesn't come out when you eat and it holds on much better. It's nice not to be able to see mine but they do tear your tongue to shreds and have broken six or seven times! Not so great considering the price (I am paying for this myself and I'm a teacher!), but at least we seem to be making progress regardless. My open bite is getting bigger I swear! I can't really bite anything, but I guess I never could before anyway! Drop me a message on here and let me know what is the best way to get in touch. Hope your appointment went well :-) Jen x

  12. I can feel your glee sister! It’s really nice that after two years, you were able to find someone who pledges to love you and care for you no matter what happen. He’s definitely worth the wait huh? You know, this reminds me of my sister who found the love of her life in an online dating website (http://www.woofilipina.com/
). He was a dentist, and up to now, he has been the one who maintains the strong teeth of my sister and their adorable babies. :)

Anyway, how are your teeth now? I hope everything is doing well
